Loungewear has officially entered the game of fashion. Silk pajamas flock galas. Matching sweatsuits sit front row at Milan Fashion Week. And now, the once-modest crewneck sweatshirt now has a fixed position in the big leagues, coming a long way from where it began. Sweatshirts were developed in the early 1930s, reputedly by Benjamin Russell Jr., a football player who replaced his itchy, insulating wool pullover that featured a rounded neckline, with one made of thick cotton. The style was then adopted by Champion, which popularized it among the scholastic set. By the ’90s, the sweatshirt became a streetwear staple. Now, it is walking down the runways of leading designers and red carpets far and wide. Read More

We’re very much guilty of describing Everlane as a source for effortless, elevated basics (granted, which the brand is!) — but its latest collection is truly upping the ante with high-tiered looks that are for real low-maintenance. The latest drop, called Dressed Up Daywear, includes ribbed and textured apparel that are wrinkle-resistant and machine-washable (perfect for travel, if you ask us), suiting separates that are structured as they are soft, and accessories made from a “cleaner” leather that’s sourced from a tannery with the highest possible rating from the Leather Working Group (LWG). As the collection name suggests, the pieces are designed for wearers who strive for all-day put-together looks, whether it’s for a morning coffee run or a work-related dinner. Dressed Up Daywear also happens to be the first major release from chief creative officer Mathilde Mader, who tells R29 she’s most excited about introducing fans of Everlane to the wonders of viscose, a smooth material made from cellulose extracted from plants. “Viscose is a fabric that has never been used by Everlane before, and it’s so versatile and has a lower environmental impact than silk so I wanted to make it a focal point of this collection,” Mader says of the responsibly sourced material. This new collection utilizes viscose in two ways. First, there are the “Ribbed Knit” pieces, which are reminiscent of ’90s-era body-hugging apparel but with detailed piping that contours throughout the curves and torso, then billows out for flow and movement at the skirt. Second, viscose is woven into a silky fabric that the brand calls the “City Stripe,” which Mader says is cut on the bias for a flattering drape. Texture-wise, this fabric has an all-over subtle stripe pattern. “We added a touch of recycled polyester to the weave to make it machine washable as an added benefit,” says Mader. Rounding out the rest of the collection are TENCEL Lyocell suiting blazers and pants, which are already part of the existing Everlane lineup, but now offered in a vibrant blue. And what is Everlane without denim? Included in the mix are two sailor-inspired wide-leg jeans in two washes. And, finally, on the accessories front, there’s an extra roomy leather tote bag made for everyday commutes and sleek smoking loafers, all of which are available in several color options. “Everlane is based in California, so when I was choosing the color palette for this collection, I really looked to the world around me in San Francisco,” says Mader. “The burnt sugar, cocoa brown, and redwood colorways came from the clay and earth tones of the natural landscape, whilst the brilliant blue was from a vintage Mercedes-Benz I saw parked on the street one day on my walk to the office.” Below, shop a few of our favorite picks from the Dressed Up Daywear collection. You can also peruse the rest of the newness here. The Ribbed High Neck Midi Dress, $198 This long-sleeve midi dress looks like a whole-body hug. Shop Everlane. The Ribbed Midi Dress, $168 This transitional-weather piece is a great option for layering over a turtleneck or to wear with a cardigan. Shop Everlane. The Ribbed Wrap Midi Dress, $178 The wrap dress is undoubtedly an officewear special — but this tie it’s reimagined in a thin ribbed knit with drapey sleeves. Shop Everlane. The Ribbed Cropped Cardigan, $130 The most Y2K-esque piece in the collection has to be this cropped knit cardigan, which we love paired with a high-waisted bottom. Shop Everlane. The City Stripe Midi Dress, $148 The “City Stripe” pieces are much flowier and airier than the ribbed knit pieces if you prefer viscose that’s less bodycon. Shop Everlane. The City Stripe Draped Shirt Dress, $178 Another staple, the shirt dress is designed here to work cinched at the waist or sans belt for a baggy look. Shop Everlane. The City Stripe Midi Skirt, $128 Casual enough to be machine-washable but fabricated to look business-ready. Shop Everlane. The Tencel™ Oversized Blazer, $178 Leave it to Everlane to whip up a suit in a must-have color that you likely have never seen before. Shop Everlane. The Mariner Jean, $128 It wouldn’t be an Everlane collection without denim, now would it? Shop Everlane. The Luxe Italian Leather Tote, $275 Everlane has released leather totes before but nothing as roomy, rectangular, and with a newly-added button closure! Shop Everlane. The Italian Leather Day Loafer, $145 While the rest of the world is still wearing chunky loafers, you can lead the way with these minimal, smoking loafer-inspired slip-sons. Shop Everlane. In our December issue, we called the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch the timepiece of the year. The watch, which helped customers get a diet version of Omega’s titanic Speedmaster, made an undeniable impact—but now the Swatch group reports its effect on the bottom line was just as great. Omega and Swatch sold over one million MoonSwatches in 2022, Bloomberg reports. That’s a lot of Missions to Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, and the Sun. Even better: the MoonSwatch poured rocket fuel in the general Speedmaster line, too. When the MoonSwatch was first announced, cynics predicted that the $260 bioceramic version of the watch would cheapen the value of the parent line. Wrong! In fact, the MoonSwatch has had the opposite effect on the Speedmater, which starts at around $6,300, or roughly 25 times the value of the former. “In the wake of the MoonSwatch hype, the entire Omega Speedmaster collection, for example, the Moonwatch models, also profited from greatly increased interest,” the Swatch Group wrote in a press release this week. Eyebrows, and their shape, will forever change with the tides of trends. If you’ve rocked the over-tweezed ‘90s craze and then the precise and sculpted contour and then the natural, brushed-up look, your brows have likely gone through several transformations. And if you fell victim to overplucking, they may have not returned to their natural state. For those with thinning brows or those who simply want to achieve a fuller-looking set, there are many options to achieve that. The current — and hopefully lasting — trend is set on natural, full-looking brows (with the help of clear eyebrow gel, individually drawn “hairs,” microblading, and more). Grande Cosmetics, which you likely know from its TikTok-famous eyelash-enhancing serum, has released a new product to achieve thicker-looking eyebrows. And its goal is to make the look last beyond any fleeting fad. The popular lash and brow serum brand created the GrandeBROW 2-in-1 Tinted Brow Gel + Brow Enhancing Serum, which is available at Ulta. The new release is a combination of Grande Cosmetics’ already existing eyebrow-enhancing serum and a tinted gel. It features castor oil for moisturizing, beetroot extract for hair growth, and vitamin E, which contains essential nutrients for hair. Available in four shades (Light, Medium, Auburn, and Dark), this eyebrow product is intended to work for a range of people, giving both instant and long-lasting results. Grande Cosmetics GrandeBROW 2-In-1 Tinted Brow Gel + Brow Enhancing Serum, $38 The two-in-one product claims to add instant color and volume to eyebrows with its smudge-proof formula that can withstand 12-hour wear. But it also promises to create darker-looking eyebrows over time to the point of being able to confidently show off makeup-free brows. The timeline to start seeing visible results is six to eight weeks of daily use, and luckily, one bottle lasts approximately eight weeks. With all of this tempting advertising, I knew I wanted to try out Grande Cosmetics’ new product. So far, I’ve only used it for about a week, swapping between two shades, but may continue using it long-term. My eyebrows verge on the bushier, fluffier side with long hairs. However, they’re simultaneously sparse at the inner corners and the tails, which often requires me to fill them in for a fuller look. My routine for years has been pairing It Cosmetics’ Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil in the shade Universal Taupe with a swipe of e.l.f. Cosmetics’ Clear Brow & Lash Mascara. This works for me, but given the opportunity to try a product that claims to be able to fill in and darken eyebrows over time — removing an entire step from my makeup routine — I was game. Now I’d like to preface this with the fact that my hair is naturally chocolate brown, and I only just recently dyed it auburn. However, I didn’t color my eyebrows, so I still fill them in with a brown eyebrow pencil. But with Grande Cosmetics’ unique Auburn shade, I tried the redhead and brunette options. Onto my trial runs: First, I opted for the Dark. I also want to preface this review with the fact that I most definitely should’ve gotten the Medium shade. The Dark is probably suited better for someone with darker brown or black hair. I was initially shocked by how tiny the spoolie was but stayed optimistic. But following the packaging’s instructions, I applied the eyebrow gel with short upward motions on my inner corner. I was squinting to see a difference but couldn’t, so I kept building in the same spot to see if it would fill in the sparse area. This wasn’t the best idea: It eventually started to look clumpy and messy. So on the days moving forward, I started applying the product onto the entire length of my brow before going back for touchups, which left a smoother appearance. Overall, my eyebrows looked darker, more filled-in, and brushed-up. If you’re looking for this to give a clean-cut line under your inner corner and arch, this is not for you. Instead, this offers a more natural, feathery appearance. (I actually went in with my It Cosmetics eyebrow product for some more definition) Now, for some reason, my left eyebrow was having a bad hair day, so let me explain why I said, “Every time I applied the product.” Even though I applied short brushstrokes, the gel got onto my skin above my brow without fail. And because it’s a smudge-proof tint, it didn’t budge. I couldn’t ever fully wipe it all off because it immediately tinted my skin. But luckily, my bangs hid the mess up. So in that respect, I would compare this eyebrow gel to a lipstick stain, which has its pros and cons. It’s not so good because once it’s on your skin (for me, because of poor artistry), it’s not coming off. But it’s good because, like I said, once it’s on, it’s not coming off! Yes, the eyebrow gel did withstand a 12-hour wear…and then some. I made it through one commute, an eight-hour work shift, a second commute, and a two-hour gym workout. Despite my naturally oily T-zone, the humid dome my bangs created, and added sweat, the product didn’t budge, smear, or fade, which was really impressive. But I did notice that, although it’s a gel formula that slicked up my hairs, my eyebrows slightly deflated throughout the day. So, I’d recommend pairing this with a clear eyebrow gel over top to reallyyy set your brows in place. Next, I tried the Auburn shade. No, the serum didn’t magically dye my eyebrows red (which it never promised to), but it did look much more natural on me, closer to how I think the Medium would’ve looked. I think it was really pretty and flattering. And while I did suffer the same left eyebrow stain issue, my new application method made for a much smoother appearance. Again, despite a change in shade, this product lasted well for 12-hour-plus days. Grande Cosmetics’ two-in-one proved, once again, that it wouldn’t smudge despite anything thrown at it. So far, with the serum in my possession for about a week, I’ve tested each shade a couple of times. While I may continue using it to see the long-term effects, I don’t generally fill in my eyebrows on a daily basis, so I’m not sure how practical that would be. But I do think it’s a solid eyebrow product overall. So while I can’t offer my verdict on the long-term results of this brow tint, I was very impressed with the instant results. Plus, Grande Cosmetics tested it on 32 individuals over the course of 16 weeks. By the end of the study, 100% of the participants felt their eyebrows were more visible and looked thicker. So, if you’re looking to try Grande Cosmetics’ GrandeBROW 2-in-1 Tinted Brow Gel + Brow Enhancing Serum, I can assure you that it will be a unique addition to your makeup bag, it won’t budge through the longest and sweatiest of days, and it will offer you long-term benefits no matter what. It’s no secret celebs like Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner are major fans of UGG boots—and specifically, UGG Ultra Mini boots (we are too!). The viral shoes are some of the most comfortable ankle boots and they’re versatile enough to take you to and from the gym, out running errands or even hitting the town with friends. The only problem? Because everyone wants to get their hands on the celebrity-loved style, they’re almost always sold out. The good news? UGG finally restocked the boots and launched two new colors in preparation for Valentine’s Day: lavender fog and horizon pink. UGG Classic Ultra Mini Right now, the UGG Classic Ultra Minis are in stock in a range of colors, but the newest color, lavender fog, has almost every size available. The soft purple would look super cute with jeans or leggings and is a trendy color for the winter and spring seasons. The light hue also adds a subtle pop of color to your outfit and makes a sweet V-Day gift that can be worn all year long. The mini boots also restocked in neutral colors, like chestnut brown, and still have select sizing available (but you’ll need to act fast!). Read More

If you've ever spent a full day with everything you need shoved into nothing but a mini bag, you know that the struggle is real—especially when you're in a mostly carless city such as NYC. But small bags have been the way of the fashion world in recent years and carrying around a large tote would lead people to assume you were headed to the office or the airport. But there's good news if you're tired of the tiny bag trend: Oversized bags are back (they've been all over the recent runways), and Katie Holmes is aware. Being the busy New Yorker that she is, it makes sense that Holmes would be on board with the oversized bag trend. On a recent late January day in the city, she carried a large black leather tote with a casual sneaker outfit. The luxe bag elevated the look but not in a trying-too-hard-to-be-trendy kind of way, given how classic it looks. So if you too are ready to upsize your bag, keep scrolling to shop chic oversized bags that will give you that effortless Katie Holmes look. Read More

On Thursday, Sephora filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by a customer who alleges the retailer’s “Clean at Sephora” label is a form of false advertising. In a November filing, Lindsey Finster claims that the designation led her to believe some products’ ingredients “were not synthetic nor connected to causing physical harm and irritation.” “Sephora prominently explains, in plain terms, exactly what it means by the phrase … ‘Clean at Sephora’ along with a clarifying definition that describes the kinds of ingredients that are excluded,” the company said in its filing Thursday. Margot Tenenbaum, the moody heroine at the center of Wes Anderson’s 2001 classic The Royal Tenenbaums played by Gwyneth Paltrow, has one of 21st century cinema’s most enduring looks. For multiple generations, the footage of a blonde mink-coat clad Margot walking in slow-motion, her eyes rimmed in black kohl eyeliner and her hair clipped neatly in a barrette, with an Hermès Birkin slung in her elbow, is the look that launched a zillion Halloween costumes. So it’s perhaps surprising that it took so long for Margot’s look to inspire an entire fashion collection—as it did on Wednesday, at Copenhagen Fashion Week, in a collection titled "The Royal Baumgartens." Baum und Pferdgarten, the Copenhagen brand led by designers Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave, pitched a giant orange tent and sent 26 Margot Tenenbaums down a runway inside it. Their looks weren't one-for-one recreations of Gwyneth Paltrow's costumes in The Royal Tenenbaums— mink or faux mink jackets were nowhere to be seen— but the film's inspiration was obvious. Backstage, Baumgarten and Hestehave said they considered Tenenbaum an icon and a woman of mystery. Since Margot mainly wore one look onscreen, the designers imagined her 2023 counterpart would have a bigger and potentially louder closet. Hence, those 26 looks. Read More

Amy Sussman via Getty Images Year after year, the stars of the Grammys show up fully turned out, seemingly conjured out of a magic spell and covered in glitter, sequins and layers of full glam. But they didn’t exactly roll out of bed looking that way. Megan Thee Stallion, for example, demands a Grammy Awards glam routine that would be incomplete without three things: anime, ginger tea and dancing. “It’s like a party when I’m doing her glam,” said Megan’s makeup artist, Lauren Child. “If she’s not watching anime, she’ll get up and twerk to a playlist she puts on.” Often included in that playlist is Megan’s new music, which Child gets to listen to before it’s even dropped. Japanese watch brand Citizen just added two chunky new divers to its popular Eco-Drive Promaster 300M range. Available—while stocks last—in stainless steel with a blue dial and bright yellow strap or black DLC-coated stainless steel with an olive green dial and matching strap, the Promaster "Ecozilla," as fans call it, is a watch that delivers serious professional performance. Aside from 300 meters of water resistance, its steel case is constructed to protect against shocks and magnetism, while the polyurethane straps have built-in extenders so you can wear them over a dive suit. The unidirectional bezel has to be depressed to turn it, adding a handy safety feature that's rare at this price range. If this all sounds a bit macho-serious, this is also a fun watch in these new colorways, and at 48mm in diameter it's hardly something that will hide its light under a bushel. (It's worth noting that the lugless design means it wears a little smaller than it sounds.) Eco-Drive, the handy proprietary technology that powers many Citizen watches via solar energy absorbed through the dial, has been a pillar of Citizen since the mid-1970s—and it's a pretty big deal. Much like self-winding movements freed mechanical watch wearers from hand-winding their timepieces, Eco-Drive freed quartz watches from the hassle of switching out batteries. Read More

There’s something about the best men's tracksuits, comfortable as they may be, that just feels more purposeful than a sweatsuit. The fabric is denser and more structured, and there’s a jacket involved—one that you have to go to the trouble of putting on and zipping up, rather than just slipping over your head like a hoodie. And then there are all the baked-in associations. Tracksuits are uniforms for people who get shit done efficiently and ruthlessly: elite athletes, UK grime rappers, mall-walking senior citizens determined to stay in shape, tough guys stretching from the Polish section of Brighton Beach all the way to actual Poland. Oh, yeah, and they also look really, really dope—leisurely and relaxed, but still plenty smart and distinctive. Tracksuits are so essential right now that literally every brand on the planet makes their own swishy, striking take. That might sound like a good thing, only the actual number of available options is so vast that it’s honestly sort of anxiety-inducing—and lord knows you don’t need any more of that at the moment. So we did you a solid and surveyed hundreds of versions, from the tiniest underground streetwear labels to the oldest luxury fashion houses to the biggest athletic conglomerates, and narrowed it down to these: the 19 best men's tracksuits in 2023. Pick the one that’s right for you, get into it pronto, and give your tried-and-true sweats a well-earned break. Read More

We've given you plenty of gift ideas for the special someone in your life, but if you're going the straight and narrow route instead with the best flower delivery services for Valentine's Day, we won't judge. In fact, contactless ordering of large, sustainable, and artfully-arranged bouquets is such a cinch these days that taking the traditional path has never been easier. Sure, each of these services has its strengths and its weaknesses. Some are high on taste and price, some lack in that delivery radius but are there when you need them (like, say, February 14th). Others don't even sell living flowers, but plants and alternative Valentine's Day bouquets instead—like long-lasting dried and preserved flower arrangements—and some sell all of the flowers. Here are some of the best flower delivery services for you to consider this Valentine's Day, along with some breakdowns on offerings and delivery options. Deliberate and price compare all you want, just don't forget to order yours ahead of time and write an extra-nice note. Read More

My needs are very simple when it comes to my makeup. Unless I’m gussying up for a special occasion, my go-to product will always be something that provides high color payoff but requires low effort and skill level. Something I can easily blend in with my fingertips is an instant winner. So if you’re a lazy girl like me, prepare to have your eyes opened by my latest discovery: the Visionary Eye Shadow Stick collection by Twenty/Twenty Beauty. The brand is led by an ophthalmologist and comes with a serious mission: All of its products are made with an all-natural, eye-safe formula that won’t cause any discomfort to your peepers. You won’t find any glitter, loose mineral powders, or fragrances in the ingredient list, as they are all common factors causing watery eyes and irritation. The winter is the perfect time for me to test out the brand’s gentle formula eye shadow sticks since my eyes are especially prone to dryness. Read ahead to find out why they have earned a top spot among my lazy-girl makeup staples. Twenty/Twenty Beauty Visionary Eye Shadow Stick – Sheer Shimmers, $24 The eye shadow sticks are divided into two core collections: Sheer Shimmers, which include three sparkly gold tones, and Rich Neutrals, a trio of matte browns and blacks. You can buy each color individually or invest in a set of three. The tip is pointier than most of the other eye shadow sticks I’ve used, and it allows for drawing out a thin and precise line. One convenient feature is the built-in eyeliner sharper hidden at the other end of the stick. A big selling point for these sticks is how easily you can create an ombré smokey eye. I was able to achieve a soft smokey eye look in under two minutes (seriously, I timed myself). First, I blended the Starry Eyed Girl, a champagne color, all over my lids. Then it was a couple of strokes of Love At First Sight, a gunmetal greige, on the outer half of my eyelids, followed by more finger-blending action. Finally, I used the dark bronze Brown Eyed Girl as an eyeliner and drew a winged line along my lashes. I dotted the inner corners of my eyes with the Starry Eyed Girl again, and hey presto — the speediest smokey eye ever was born. Overall, I was really impressed with the eye shadow stick. The texture was so on point, and it glides right onto the skin without clumping. It felt luxurious and creamy, so the colors blended like a dream even without a professional brush. The shades were highly pigmented, and a little bit of each goes a long way. The brand more than measured up to its claims of being kind to the eyes: My eyes are usually very sensitive to gunk falling out from my mascara or liquid eyeliner, leaving me with an uncomfortable feeling in the corner of my eyes. The lack of irritant particles in the formula meant that I didn’t rub my lids even after a whole evening of wear. The color stayed on beautifully, too, as you can see from the above selfie I took at the end of the evening. The only thing I clocked as an area of improvement is how the tubes are all identical. When you’re switching between colors, the only way to ID the right shade is to read the tiny text printed on the side of the stick. It would have been nice to have a color indicator on the cap. Small remarks on the packaging aside, these eye shadow sticks are makeup MVPs in the making: They are just so easy to blend, show up gorgeously on the skin, and have remarkable staying power. I will be stashing these in my pocket when I am minutes from running late (which is often) and need a quick beauty fix on the go. As protesters took to the streets last summer, decrying the overturn of Roe v. Wade, fashion was, understandably, the last thing on anyone’s mind. However, the attack on bodily agency rippled into the sartorial world a few months later, with spring 2023 collections—from Rick Owens to Prada—featuring sheer, nipple-baring looks that both celebrated and called attention to the female form. Coincidence? History begs to differ. “There’s been a symbiotic relationship between women gaining greater access to the public sphere and the way they dress their bodies,” says Cassidy Zachary, a fashion historian and co-host of the podcast Dressed: The History of Fashion. Think: hemlines shrinking at Courrèges in the mid-’60s, as birth control became more widely available and The Feminine Mystique could be found on many a bookshelf. “It’s interesting that the concentrated assault on American women’s bodily autonomy comes during a time when the near eradication of the once-strict gender binary in fashion has given women more fashion choices than ever,” she adds. “This apparently includes, as proposed by the spring 2023 collections, the right to bare breasts.” Read More

I'll let you in on a little secret: Shopbop may have some of the best plus-size clothing I've seen in a while. As a shopping editor, my job consists of trying and buying clothing I spend looking at for hours every day—some of which may not fit me the way I want them to. As a plus-size fashion lover, finding fun, out-of-the-box statement pieces can be challenging, but after spending 4 hours scrolling through Shopbop's inclusive size section, I've added more things to my cart than I care to admit. While the online retailer's focus is straight sizes, mid-size and plus-size fashion people won't walk away empty-handed. For every delicate knit sweater or cute midi dress that's available in a straight size, you can find an equally comparable garment in Shopbop's inclusive size tab. While the number of garments available on other retailers can vastly outweigh what's available on Shopbop, the trend-focused online platform's offerings veer more on the high-end side, providing a unique price point and perspective on plus-size fashion. Although I'm sure more and more designers will add larger sizes to Shopbop in time (finger's crossed!), the current roster with pieces going up to 4XL isn't anything to scoff at. Read More

Gawker is shutting down. Again. Bustle Digital Group is shutting down Gawker after relaunching the site in 2021. “Well, after an incredible 1.5 years, BDG has decided it is done with Gawker 2.0,” Leah Finnegan, Gawker EIC, tweeted today. “Can’t say enough about how proud I am of the site and all the brilliant people who worked to create it, and what a staggering shame this is. I had an absolute blast, and I love you.” A BDG spokesperson confirmed to Variety the company is suspending operations. Tom Brady announces retirement (for real this time!) After a 20-year career with the Patriots and a three-year run with the Buccaneers (ICYMI: those are football teams!), Tom Brady is finally retiring. The 46-year-old posted an emotional farewell video on Twitter this morning to confirm he’s giving up the game “for good.” Gisele’s ex also made a red carpet appearance last night in Los Angeles at the premiere of 80 for Brady, starring Jane Fonda, Sally Field, Rita Moreno, and Lily Tomlin. The film follows four best friends who embark on a trip to see their hero, Tom Brady, play in the 2017 Super Bowl. The comedy is based on a true story. Read More

What’s the first thing a TV icon and multi-company owner does when she wakes up? It’s not checking in with her millions of followers on social media or launching into her inbox. Actress, author, and entrepreneur Tia Mowry starts her day by taking a solo moment to set her intentions. “I wear so many different hats, so it’s really important to set boundaries to rest and reset,” says Mowry, who uses the hashtag #selfcareisntselfish on her social posts about beauty and wellness. “I used to be the person who would just get up and hit the ground running, but as I’ve gotten older I've really understood the power of setting your intentions.” Read More

We’ve spent years caught on digital hamster wheels, spinning solipsistically in our most base states: angry, jealous, needing to be accepted. It’s almost cute, in a tragic way, the fact that we’ve been driven by such a human and vulnerable need — to be liked. Our continued embrace of the internet, after we realized it was making us spiritually decrepit, is embarrassing. After all, there are still other forms of connection, ways to find and share information, art, jokes and entertainment (if that’s what social media is for). I’m no tech futurist, so I’m no good at predictions, but I will say it’s cringe to not have a New York Public Library card in 2023. I just got one. I can only hope it will save me from further embarrassment. Read More

I'm not going to lie to you guys: The scarf can be a somewhat tricky stylistic flourish to pull off. Seamlessly adding the accessory to your everyday repertoire will take time and a bit of patience. But if you're willing to put in the work, your dedication will pay dividends down the line. See, the scarf is a delicate thing. Successfully nailing the look in a way that doesn't immediately announce to everyone around you "YO, I'M WEARING A FUCKING SCARF!" calls for a rare blend of studied casualness and a touch—and only a touch—of bold, unbridled confidence. Pay too much attention to the intricacies of your neckwear and you risk looking affected, like the horn-rimmed graduate student who led that Classics seminar you took freshman year (a.k.a., the type of dude your grandmother would've considered "dapper"). Pay too little attention to it, though, and your scarf will end up flailing helplessly behind you in the icy weather or, worse yet, dangling limply around your chest like some sad Little League participation medal. The fashion world has been bracing for the return of extra large bags for a while now. But the spring 2023 runways, which confirmed their triumphant return to the trend cycle, begged the question: Why did supersized bags ever go away? Ever since Kendall Jenner was photographed wearing a larger-than-torso Bottega Veneta shoulder bag back in 2021, I’ve asked myself the same question. For years, prior to the pandemic, handbags seemed to get smaller, more impractical, and just straight up ornamental. Think: Jacquemus’ cult Le Chiquito, a handbag so small it spurred an Internet debate after Lizzo posted a video of her taking a #2 pencil out of it in 2019. Three years later, the runways have declared the shrinkage over. Take, for example, Bottega Veneta’s spring 2023 collection, which showcased oversized slouchy carryalls, Givenchy, which featured extra large shoulder bags with thick buckles, and Prada, which included work-ready structured totes. Even designers with signature mini bags are supersizing their offering. Case in point: Luar’s Ana bag got an XXL makeover for the brand’s spring 2023 collection. While teensy bags enjoyed their moment of popularity, a series of social factors have actually pushed consumers and brands to put practicality first. Firstly, the COVID pandemic upended nightlife worldwide, leaving people with no use for impractical, tiny bags. Then, once restrictions loosened, our collective enjoyment of comfort, functionality, and versatility translated directly into the handbag trends. Tote bags, in particular, have enjoyed an uptick in popularity over the past year, from the viral sensation of L.L.Bean’s tote bags – emblazoned with cheeky monograms such as “unhinged” or “psycho”, which has amassed over 70 million views on TikTok, to Marc Jacobs’ signature The Tote Bag model, which has become a trending item on TikTok with over 104 million views. On the luxury side, models like YSL’s Icare bag (pictured above), which has been worn by Zoë Kravitz and Hailey Bieber and was recently named by global fashion platform Lyst as the hottest product of 2022’s last quarter with a 46% spike in searches. The secondhand market is also seeing this trend boom. “Space is the biggest factor to the oversized handbag trend, with customers fitting everything from laptops to lipsticks in a practical and stylish way,” says Elizabeth Layne, chief marketing officer of luxury resale destination Rebag. According to the platform, big handbags are one of the defining trends of 2023, with models like the Goyard Saint Louis tote and the YSL Icare bag being some of the most searched on their website, along with Chanel’s Deauville tote bag. With the return of 2010s trends, which included bags like Saint Laurent’s Sac de Jour and Celine’s Micro Luggage, and a push for functional fashion amid economic downturn, it’s no surprise that oversized handbags are having a main character moment again. So, put your itty-bitty bags in storage, and let your inner Mary Poppins shine. It’s time to keep calm and carry it all. There is no shortage of luxury fragrances in the world of perfume. But even in a market that is, by definition, all about luxury, a $300 bottle can make you stop and stare. Before you dismiss House of Bō as just another overpriced status symbol, let me explain why this one-of-a-kind perfume company is worth the splurge. The elevated, gender-neutral fragrance brand was founded by Bernardo Möller in collaboration with several world-renown perfumers. The formulas are ethically produced with the highest quality ingredients and inspired by Mexico’s culture — the fragrance names are even in Spanish. Each scent is a work of art that is unlike anything else in the perfume category. The brand’s approach to luxury extends beyond the ingredients, too. Everything from the naming to the packaging to the experience of using the perfume has been carefully considered for a truly opulent experience. As someone who’s very into smelling expensive, these perfumes are it. If you’re ready to invest in a scent before it becomes the next viral TikTok buy on everyone’s lips, it really can’t get any better than House of Bō. Whether you’re shopping for yourself or for your Valentine, you might have just found the perfect gift. Keep on reading to read more about my favorite perfumes from the brand’s two lines: Artesanal and Tesoro. House of Bō La Mar Eau de Parfum, $290 No wonder this fragrance’s name translates to “the sea,” because this scent will transport you to calm waters, soft sands, and the sun’s warmth at the beach. Well, to say it translates to “the sea” is an oversimplification, what House of Bō did here is beyond clever. Spanish is gendered, just like all Latin languages, and “mar” is a masculine noun that would normally have the masculine pronoun of “el” in front. Instead, this has the feminine “la.” It’s a perfect fit for a gender-neutral scent that is neither neutral nor “less.” Instead, it’s full of everything that makes floral perfumes addicting to smell combined with the heaviness and long-lasting nature of colognes. La Mar features notes of gardenia Mexicana, pink pepper, seawater, Arabian jasmine, Indian tuberose, fresh ginger, coconut, almond milk, and Sambrani tears. It’s light enough to not be headache-inducing but strong enough to last you the entire day. This is one of those scents that can truly be your signature smell and can be worn while you’re at home, going to the office, or for date night. The packaging itself is enough to make you a lifelong fan — the mist is one of the most gentle sprays in the game, delicate and soft (there’s no need to worry about over spraying), and the top is made from recycled marble. If there’s one scent I’d recommend, it’s La Mar — you’ll simply smell expensive. If you’re not a fan of beachy floral scents, the other two fragrances from House of Bō’s first collection are definitely worth checking out. Espiritu is a darker woodsy scent with notes of leather and musky florals. Agua de Santos (or Water of Saints) is a sweet citrus scent with light woody notes. House of Bō El Sireno Parfum, $365 Just like La Mar, El Sireno does a similar thing with its name: it challenges gendered language. “Sireno” is the masculine version of “Sirena” or mermaid. While mermen exist as a concept, the word itself is non-exist in Spanish. It’s taking an idea best known for one gender and twisting it — exactly what the brand is doing with its fragrances. El Sireno is made in collaboration with world-renowned perfumer Laurent Le Guernec, and the scent features notes of kelp, banana leaf, lavender, magnolia, ylang-ylang, tuberose, oakmoss, mastic, and sandalwood. Maybe I have a thing for floral aquatic fragrances because this is one of the best things I’ve smelled. While La Mar was light and fresh, El Sireno is bright and more masculine. It evokes images of a secret underwater land instead of the beach. Personally, I use this for more special occasions. It’s stronger than La Mar, and I prefer lighter scents for my everyday. Still, I’m obsessed with El Sireno and yes, I do think it’s worth every cent. El Sireno’s cap is made from natural Blue Patagonian Onyx stone which is hand-sculpted by local Mexican artisans. It’s a part of House of Bo’s second collection, Tesoro. As part of the collection, each fragrance has a different stone cap that goes perfectly with its scent. Rosario is a unique rose scent that combines notes of citrus and incense — trust me, it’s like no other rose fragrance out there — and the cap is made out of rose quartz. Infinitoud is a special darker Oud fragrance with notes of myrrh, vetiver, and patchouli. While the exorbitant price point of these fragrances may be absolute insanity, the truth is that it’s reflected in the quality of the scents. You really do get what you pay for. The all-natural ingredients and materials of the scent and the packaging make a huge difference. These are really good perfumes. If you’re a fragrance fanatic like I am, the House of Bō scents are absolute must-haves in your collection. They’re unique and unlike anything else on the market right now. Even if you somehow find a dupe, it won’t be the same, I guarantee it. The truth is that you can smell the difference in the price point. If you’re tired of the same ol’ scents, I could not recommend House of Bō enough. At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. Since its release in 2018 by creative director Hedi Slimane, Celine's Teen Triomphe bag has made the rounds among celebrities and It girls, mostly French ones, alike. Lauded for its sleek design, practical size and shape, and goes-with-everything aesthetic, the crossbody bag is understandably many people's dream bag. There's just one component of the bag—clad with the two C Triomphe emblem that the brand's founder Céline Vipiana came up with back in 1972—that might cause one to pump the breaks before making a purchase: It costs more than $3,600. Though understandable given the quality of the materials used to craft it—it has a calf-leather exterior, a lambskin interior, and gold hardware—simply put, a lot of consumers can't afford a bag with a price tag that high. Fortunately, another trusted brand just launched a style that, at $198, is much more likely to fit into this month's shopping budget. Read More

Christian Vierig Street style at Copenhagen Fashion Week has gotten unpredictable. As Denmark's capital has gained global recognition as a true fashion hub, the crowds inside and outside the shows have grown with standout looks to match. Traditional "Scandi style" minimalism is still riding by in the bike lane or sitting in the front row, but more eccentric and unexpected outfits are just steps away. Sometimes quite literally—guests often make quick-changes for the photographers between events. This season, smack in the middle of a frigid Denmark winter, fashion insiders weren't going to let a brisk wind or freezing rain dampen their commitment to a daring look. Knitted balaclavas styled with chunky sweaters, wooly scarves piled over woolier coats, and lug-sole boots made for stomping through puddles were clear necessities, whether guests were attending Aeron's knitwear-forward season opener at a community art studio, or Skall's minimalistic tea-time set at Design Museum Denmark. (Tea was indeed served—and so were jackets and sweaters with linings reminiscent of lace doilies.) But showgoers were also taking big swings in the accessories department: towering fuzzy hats, heart-shaped leather bags, and metallic boots so reflective they were practically a mirror. But if guests had to accept the forecast and wear a puffer? It was going to be a bright one. Read More

Picture a woman in a chainmail Paco Rabanne dress. The odds are she’s someone legendary like Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin, or Françoise Hardy. Today, she’s Elle Fanning, the brand's newest muse and the face of their just-launched fragrance, Fame. Fanning has worked her entire life, growing up with roles in movies like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and starring inMaleficent alongside Angelina Jolie. Most recently, she wrapped season three of The Great, where she plays Russian Empress Catherine the Great. Fanning is a natural fit for Fame. On a windy January day in New York, she’s set up in the legendary Plaza Hotel, wearing a white rhinestoned Paco Rabanne dress, looking like she could appear on a red carpet or decide to get married in a lavish ceremony on a whim, if the mood struck her. The perfume is mish-mash of classic feminine scents–coconut, jasmine, mango–and spicier incense. She spoke with ELLE.com about her personal style evolution, being a tourist in Paris, and the power of a great fragrance. Read More

Liliya Krueger via Getty Images Dermatologists and skin care enthusiasts alike adore retinol ― and for a good reason. As a well-studied anti-aging ingredient, retinol boasts claims of boosting collagen production, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, fading spots from hyperpigmentation and increasing cell turnover to reveal brighter, healthier skin. “Retinoids are some of the most studied and proven ingredients for slowing down and correcting skin aging,” said Dr. Angela Casey, an Ohio-based board-certified dermatologist and founder of Bright Girl. “Retinols inhibit matrix metalloproteinases, the compounds that break down collagen in our skin.” Read More

Saks Fifth Avenue Even if you're new to the world of beauty tech, chances are you've already heard of red light therapy, which is a skin-boosting staple in spas and professional offices alike. "Red light therapy has been around for quite some time," board-certified dermatologist and clinical assistant professor of dermatology at the UT Southwestern Kristel Polder tells BAZAAR.com. "Past studies have shown that it can improve wound healing and overall recovery post procedure. For example, we use red light therapy after lasers, and other treatments we offer at our practice to expedite healing. This kind of therapy has also been utilized for its anti-aging properties."
